The name URSUS, combined with the V-shaped design, corresponds to Taiwan’s unique species: the black bear.

The Formosan black bear is an animal unique to Taiwan and one of the most popular animals.

The Golden Pin Design Award was founded in Taiwan in 1981. It is now administered by the Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI), which organizes the award ceremony and related activities. Since 2014, it has been moving towards a new positioning as "the top design award in the global Chinese market", gaining a voice for the Chinese design industry.
